Left decision a 'mock fight', real test, says BJP Monday, June 27 2005 19:57 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Dismissing as a "mock fight" the Left's decision to suspend participation in UPA (United Progressive Alliance) Coordination meetings, BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) today (Jun 27, 2005) said the seriousness of the Communist parties will be tested in Parliament during the upcoming Monsoon session when the Government faces "challenges".
BJP spokesman Arun Jaitley raised questions over the "credibility" of the Left parties, while pointing out that they had earlier also attacked the Government but defended it as well over controversial issues like tainted ministers, "undemocratic" actions in Jharkhand and Bihar and "mismanagement" of Kashmir and internal security.
"The Left parties' decision to boycott formal meetings of UPA Coordination Committee is guided by strategy rather than conviction. This show of distance is just drama and mock fight," he told reporters in New Delhi.
Noting that the Monsoon session of Parliament was beginning on July 25, Jaitley said, "It will be the real test for Left parties to demonstrate whether their protest against Government is real or only for the media."
He said it will be tested whether the Left parties "really are concerned about the common people when the Government faces challenges in the Parliament."
Insisting that the UPA coalition was "fragile" ever since it was formed, Jaitley said the Common Minimum Programme of the ruling alliance was a "fake show" and the real common programme of the coalition was "Opposition to BJP".
Seeking to ridicule the Left, he said they had refused to participate in the Government's celebrations on completion of one year but had given a greeting letter to it expressing support for full term.
