29 policemen's bail plea in Younus case adjourned Wednesday, June 29 2005 15:50 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Mumbai:
A Sessions court today (Jun29, 2005) adjourned till July 8, the hearing on the anticipatory bail petition of 29 policemen who have been apprehending arrest in the alleged custodial death of the 2002 Ghatkopar blast accused Khwaja Younus.
On June 27, the CID had told that the court that it wanted to arrest Mumbai crime branch Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ambadas Pote and Inspector Arun Borude.
The investigating agency had given a detailed chart of charges against ACP Pote, inspectors Arun Borude and Rajendra Joshi besides an Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and two constables, holding them responsible for Younus's alleged custodial death.
The CID submission came after it opposed the anticipatory bail plea of the above police officials last week, prompting the court to ask the agency to explain the role of these
police officials in the case.
The agency contended that custodial interrogation of Pote and Borude was required to find out what exactly happened to Younus and this was possible only if they were arrested.
Ambadas Pote, the CID alleged, rushed to the Ghatkopar unit of Mumbai crime branch when he came to know about Younus's death on January 6, 2003.
The CID has claimed that it has printout of Pote's mobile used on January 6, which suggests that he was present at Ghatkopar between 3.43 pm to 5.12 pm.
The agency has alleged that Pote tried to conceal the matter and even concoct a story on how Younus escaped near Ahmednagar when the police vehicle taking him to Aurangabad for investigation met with an accident on January 7.
