Key accused in Godhra train carnage case remanded Wednesday, June 29 2005 13:53 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

The designated Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) court today (Jun 29, 2005) remanded Irfan Abdul Majid Kalandar, a key accused in Godhra train carnage, to police custody till July 5.
Special POTA court judge Sonia Gokani sent the accused, arrested yesterday (Jun 28, 2006) to seven days' police remand.
Police argued that Kalandar alias Bhobho was a 'core group' member that torched the S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express on February 27, 2002 near Godhra railway station, in which 59 kar sevaks were burnt alive.
Police told the court that five eyewitnesses have identified Kalandar as the person who had allegedly taken petrol to the train and had poured it in S-6 coach.
Moreover, he had been absconding in the case for the past three years, police added.
Kalandar, a resident of Satpol area of the town, was arrested yesterday from Godhra town.
With this, the total number of those arrested in the case has risen to 107.
