In continuing rejig of Congress leadership in States, senior leader Sadanand Singh, who resigned as Bihar Assembly Speaker, was today (Jun 30, 2005) made the PCC (Pradesh Congress Committee) President of the poll-bound State replacing Ram Jatan Sinha who had quit in the wake of the party's debacle in the last elections.
Ram Babu Sharma, a known detractor of Chief Minister Sheila Dixit, was retained as the Delhi PCC Chief as was Subhash Yadav as Madhya Pradesh PCC chief by Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
With today's appointments, Congress has so far announced the names of 21 PCC Chiefs.
Today was the last date for completing the process of organisational elections and the Congress has completed most part of the exercise.
Sadanand Singh is considered close to RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) supremo Laloo Prasad and votary of an alliance with his party. His predecessor Ram Jatan Sinha was an arch detractor of Prasad and had unsuccessfully tried against having any truck with RJD in the last elections.
Gandhi had been authorised by the PCCs of the three states to select their leader.
The appointment of the Bihar PCC Chief came days after AICC (All India Congress Committee) General Secretary Digvijay Singh was made in charge of party affairs in the State.
