Advani should join the Congress party: Bhai Mahavir Friday, July 1 2005 09:44 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
In yet another voice of dissent, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and a former Governor Bhai Mahavir has said L K Advani should join Congress if he favoured compromise on ideology and alleged the party was being run like a limited company.
"I too have read that he has said that to come to power, ideology would have to be compromised. He should be asked whether his ideal was to get into power or strengthen ideology. Advani is the President and if the President himself says that ideology would have to be compromised, then you all join Congress. The issue is over", he told 'Outlook'.
"If you are ready for a national hara-kiri, then this is the correct path. If there is no ideology, then will elections be fought on the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) manifesto? If you are so power hungry, then you immerse the ideals that you had set and the philosophy of Shyama Prasad Mookerjee for which Deendayal Upadhyaya worked at the Har Ki Paudi (in Hardwar)," he said.
Asserting that BJP has not learnt any lessons from the distortions it underwent while in power, he said, "The effect of defeat in the behaviour of the leaders is not to be seen. It would have been better if the party had garnered its resources and successfully utilised them after the poll debacle. But this did not happen."
"The leaders lost touch with the workers at the ground level. The party started functioning like a limited company".
In his reaction, BJP's Additional Spokesman Prakash Javadekar said, "We don't subscribe to his views. We have no comments to offer".
