Statements of NCP leader recorded in Bakery case

Vadodara: Registrar and Inquiry Officer of the Supreme Court B M Gupta yesterday (Jun 30, 2005) recorded the statements of former Deputy mayor and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporator Nisar Bapu in connection with a bribery case in the Best Bakery case.

The case is related to tapes recorded by Tehelka wherein Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Madhu Srivastav and Congress corporator Chandharkant Srivastav were seen talking about a sum of Rs 18 lakh allegedly given to Zaheera Sheikh, the prime witness in the Best Bakery case, to change her statements.

The recording of statements of Nisar Bapu lasted for four hours during which Mumbai-based social activist Teesta Setalvad and her advocate Arpana Bhatt were also present.

'They asked me about the allegations recorded in the Tehelka tape," Bapu told sources.

Committee has also recorded statements of one Shyam Faraswala Lala in connection with this case, Bapu added.

Nisar Bapu stuck to his statements made in the Tehelka tapes wherein he has mentioned about the BJP and Congress leaders paying bribe to Zaheera.

Today (July 1, 2005), Gupta will continue to record statements of Zaheera's brother Nafitullah, Madhu Srivastava, Chandrakant Srivastav and others.

Gupta had come to the city to record the statements of Nisar Bapu after he cited ill heath to travel to Delhi.
