Govt announces Rs 500 cr aid for flood-hit Gujarat

Ahmedabad: Centre today announced an aid of Rs 500 crore to flood-hit Gujarat, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil said in Ahmedabad today (July 1, 2005).

Patil, who arrived in the State to take stock of the flood situation, said that this was an initial package for the state and that more amount will be announced in a fortnight after assessment of the damage due to the flood.

Patil would conduct an aerial survey of the worst affected districts of Gujarat tomorrow (July 2, 2005).

Addressing mediapersons along with Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Patil described the situation as 'tragic' and said that the situation was a concern for the entire nation.
