Venus beats Sharapova; enters Wimbledon finals

Wimbledon: Two-time champion Venus Williams upset top-seeded Maria Sharapova 7-6 (2), 6-1 today (July 1, 2005) in the semi-finals at Wimbledon.

The 18-year-old Sharapova, who won the title at the All England Club last year, had been broken only once in her first five matches at the tournament this year.

Williams, the 2000 and '01 winner, will face either top-ranked Lindsay Davenport or third-seeded Amelie Mauresmo in Saturday's (July 2, 2005) final.
