At least 20 killed in Baghdad suicide bombing today

Baghdad: At least 20 people were killed and one wounded today (July 2, 2005) when a suicide bomber blew himself up in Baghdad among recruits to the Iraqi security forces, an Interior Ministry spokesman said.

"A suicide bomber wearing an explosives vest blew himself up among a group waiting to sign up to join the commandos," Colonel Adnan Abdelrahman told agencies referring to a special force attached to the Interior Ministry.

He said the attack happened at about 09:00 hrs (local time) (10:30 hrs IST) near Al-Nusur Square in the city centre, not far from the commando headquarters, the target of several deadly attacks in the past.
