2 Englishmen found guilty of NRI family's murder
Saturday, July 2 2005 13:49 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

London: A British court yesterday (July 1, 2005) found two Englishmen guilty of murdering an NRI millionaire and his entire family in order to take over his freight company.

After an eight-month trial, Kenneth Regan and his accomplice William Horncy were convicted in London's Old Bailey court of murdering 46-year-old NRI businessman Amarjit Chauhan, his wife Nancy (25), their two sons - Devinder (18 months) and Ravinder (2 months) - and Chauhan's mother-in-law Chiranjit Kaur (51).

The bodies of Chauhan, his wife and mother-in-law were washed up on the south coast in 2003. The bodies of Devinder and Ravinder have not been found so far.

The third accused, Peter Rees, 39, of Rowlands Castle, Hampshire, were found guilty of murdering Chauhan, but cleared of four other murder charges. He was also convicted of assisting the offender.

According to the judgement, 55-year-old Regan of Wilton, a heavy vehicle driver at Chauhan's firm, convicted drug dealer and police informant, planned to take over Chauhan's successful freight company in Southall, West London, to use it as a front for importing drugs.

He wanted to make people think that Chohan, who ran CIBA Freight, a company importing and exporting fruits with a 5-million Pound turnover, had given up his business and gone abroad voluntarily, the trial was told.
