Lord Paul gifts world-class school to Jalandhar!

New Delhi: NRI industrialist Lord Swraj Paul today (July 4, 2005) gave a gift to the place of his birth, Jalandhar.

Paul's Caparo Group signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Punjab Technical University (PTU) to establish a school for manufacturing and material technology on the outskirts of Jalandhar. The school is expected to start from the academic year 2006.

Caparo is contributing Rs five crore for the project while PTU will provide 10 acres of land and contribute Rs one crore.

Besides Paul, PTU Vice-Chancellor Dr S K Salwan and K K Bhatnagar, Principal Secretary, Technical Education, Punjab Government were present at the signing of the MoU in New Delhi.

The school, which will impart advanced research and education facilities, will be located at Jalandhar-Kapurthala road, adjoining Science City. The MoU commits the two sides to making the school a "world-class" institution.

Paul said that he was delighted to embark on establishing the school in his place of birth because his ancestral family meant a lot to him and his family.
