BJP to hold nationwide protest tomorrow: Advani
Tuesday, July 5 2005 14:21 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Guwahati: BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) President L K Advani today (July 5, 2005) said the party would hold nationwide protests tomorrow (July 6, 2005) over the terrorist attack at the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

"Tomorrow, all over the country we will protest and express anguish over the incident. The form of the protest will be decided later", he told reporters in Guwahati.

Advani, the leader of the Ayodhya movement, said Ram Janmabhoomi has been a "very sacred place" for the people of the country and the "response to the attack over it should also be equally fitting".

Expressing concern that militants, equipped with AK-47s, tried to enter the Ayodhya complex, Advani said he has asked party leaders Kalyan Singh and Raj Nath Singh, who were in Delhi, to rush to Ayodhya.

The Leader of the Opposition said he had talks with Home Minister Shivraj Patil as also the Director General of CRPF and "Our expectation from the Government was to wage relentless fight against terrorism, without any compromise".

He said the attack has taken place in spite of the fact that it was impossible to get out alive in view of the tight security at Ayodhya.

Advani said he would also be returning to Delhi in the evening.

Advani termed the attack as a "very serious crime". "The attack is alarming and protests should be very strong," he said.

The BJP President said he was apprehensive that some terrorists may be hiding in the temple complex kitchen. "This is a suicide attack and not an act of desperation."

"We know there are terrorists but we can't say whether it is Lashkar-e-Toiba or the Jaish-e-Mohammad who attacked today", he said.

"Terrorists have been constantly active and attempting to breach the peace process between India and Pakistan," he said.
