Ayodhya attack: Security beefed up at RSS conclave Tuesday, July 5 2005 15:32 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Surat:
A tight security cordon was thrown around the venue of the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) conclave in Surat following the terrorist strike at the Ramjanambhoomi temple at Ayodhya early today (July 5, 2005).
Immediately after the news of terrorist attack on the temple came, the Administration deployed sharpshooters and commandoes, including plain clothes police personnel, at the Eklavya Ambedkar Bhavan at Choksi Vadi, venue of the three-day meeting scheduled to conclude later today.
Barriccades were erected on the road leading to the venue and even media persons were kept at a distance from the main gate of the meeting place.
Top Sangh Parivar leaders including RSS chief K S Sudarshan and VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) leaders Ashok Singhal and Praveen Togadia are attending the meeting.
For the last two days of the conclave, only activists of the RSS in their trade mark 'shirt and short' uniform were guarding the venue with a few policemen posted around.
Meanwhile, police officials said a red alert has also been sounded across the communally sensitive city, which had witnessed large-scale violence during the post-Godhra riots, and police personnel have been deployed in strength at all sensitive points of the city.
