'Ayodhya issue has come alive after militant attack' Wednesday, July 6 2005 17:33 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Seeking to derive maximum political mileage from the terror attack in Ayodhya, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and workers today (July 6, 2005) hit the streets, with party President L K Advani declaring that the Ram Temple issue had come alive and his party was committed to building the temple in Ayodhya.
The protest in Delhi, led by Advani, turned violent with demonstrators breaking barricades and pelting stones at the police, who retaliated by turning on the water cannon at them and lobbing teargas shells.
Advani also appeared to have been affected by the teargas and said," The Ramjanmabhoomi issue, which had got buried, has again come alive after yesterday's (July 5, 2005) militant attack in Ayodhya."
Our party believes in resolving the issue either in court or through talks between the two communities. But Ram Temple will be built right there 'Shri Ram Mandir Wahin Banega,' he said addressing the hundreds of demonstrators.
He also attacked the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government for its failure in
securing the Ramjanmabhoomi complex in Ayodhya.
But what is happening is that while the Centre is holding the United Progressive (UP) government responsible, the Court in Rae Bareli headed by Special KI then led to resignation of the then Human Resources Development (HRD) Minister Murli Manohar Joshi, who had earlier taken the stand that those against whom the court upholds the framing of charges should give up their posts.
The then former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who was away on a foreign tour,
came back and later rejected Joshi's resignation.
In discharging Advani, the trial court had observed that a few statements of witnesses did lead to a prima facie case against him but the remaining accounts of witnesses contradicted them.
"Only suspicion has been raised to implicate Advani," the court had said then.
