Tamil Nadu advocates announces three-day boycott Wednesday, July 6 2005 15:53 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Chennai:
Work in the Madras High Court, City courts and tribunals came to a near standstill as advocates commenced a three-day boycott of the courts from today (July 6, 2005) against amendments to the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPc).
Judges of the High Court were seen in their courts while some government lawyers and senior advocates belonging to the Madras Bar Association attended the court.
Yesterday the Madras High Court advocates' association had called for the three-day boycott and appealed to the centre to withdraw the amendments which they claimed would not help the accused in any manner.
