Landslides stop Amarnath Yatra from Jammu route
Thursday, July 7 2005 13:51 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Jammu: The yatra to holy cave shrine of Amarnath from here was suspended today (July 7, 2005) following landslides, triggered by incessant rains, along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway.

Today's batch of Amarnath pilgrims, heading to Pahalgam, was stopped at Jammu following closure of the 300-km highway due to landslides at several places, official sources said.

No fresh batch would be allowed till the highway is cleared, they said adding the pilgrims have been housed in Mam Stadium in Jammu.

Meanwhile, 88,123 pilgrims, who took the Baltal route, have had darshan of the ice lingum of Lord Shiva at Amarnath till today, according to the Amarnath Shrine Board.

The yatra, via the Pahalgam-Chadanwari route, began yesterday with 1175 pilgrims having reached Pahalgam.
