New York goes on high alert after blasts in London Thursday, July 7 2005 18:03 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New York:
The security agencies in New York went on full alert today (July 7, 2005) following terrorist attacks in London as authorities sought people's help in reporting any suspicious activity or packages.
Security was specially beefed up in the underground local train system, bus stations and landmark building across the city, which had witnessed thousands of deaths in the September 11, 2001 terror attacks on World Trade Center.
Uniformed security personnel are seen dotting the city even as patrols were increased in the business districts and other places where people gather in large numbers.
Traffic going into Manhattan, especially trucks, was being carefully watched especially as it went through tunnels and over bridges.
The coordinated terrorist attacks on London's transport system overshadowed the G-8 summit of Industrialised nations in Scotland's Gleneagles, which President George W Bush is attending with leaders of Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Russia.
