Secularists country's greatest enemies: BJP, VHP Thursday, July 7 2005 11:09 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Ayodhya:
Alleging that the terrorist attack on the Ram janmabhoomi complex was Pak-sponsored, top BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) and VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) leaders yesterday (July 6, 2005) said secularists were greatest enemies of the country and called upon Hindus to inflict a crushing blow to them.
"Terrorist attack was Pakistan-sponsored and was aimed at weakening the country," senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi told reporters in Ayodhya.
Terming the attack as "well-planned", he asked the government to ensure full-proof security of important religious places in the country.
Rejecting suggestions that the BJP was trying to gain political mileage out of the incident, he said it was the Centre and the Uthar Pradesh (UP) government, which were playing politics in this connection.
"Neither is above board. If the Centre had intelligence information and had passed it on to the state, it should have ensured that proper security measures are in place to thwart terrorist's design," he said.
Joshi alleged that policies of the UP government were encouraging terrorism.
The BJP leader said government should continue peace talks with Pakistan but at the same time ensure that terrorist elements were firmly dealt with.
VHP President Ashok Singhal said his organisation viewed the attack very seriously and announced the VHP would organise anti-terrorism day from July eight to 13.
