Ayodhya: Advani accuses UPA govt of repealing POTA

Lucknow: Criticising the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government for repealing the anti-terror law Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President L K Advani today (July 8, 2005) claimed it has been done to 'please' a particular community and said a special law was required to deal with terrorism.

"A special law is required to deal with terrorism, we had made one (POTA) but to please a particular section of the society the UPA government repealed it," Advani told reporters at the Amausi Airport in Lucknow on his way to Ayodhya where terrorists had tried to storm the makeshift Ram Temple on Tuesday.

There was no point in blaming each other but the fact is that a terrorist attack was made at the Ram Janam Bhoomi complex in Ayodhya, he said.

Terrorism has acquired a global proportion, he said adding the ugly face of terrorism that India had been witnessing for over two decades was yesterday (July 7, 2005) witnessed by London and a couple of years ago by USA during the 9/11 attacks.
