G8 postpones summit declaration on climate change Friday, July 8 2005 11:41 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Gleneagles:
A declaration and plan of action on climate change that were to be released at the G8 summit yesterday (July 8, 2005) will be issued tomorrow (July 8, 2005) because of the London bomb attacks, a summit delegation source said.
Negotiators had been working on several disputed areas of text, including wording as to the urgency of climate change.
The string of attacks on London's transport system occurred just as the leaders of Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and the United States began formal talks.
The heads of state or government from Brazil, China, India, Mexico and South Africa was joining them. The three-day summit, which winds up on Friday, is also mainly devoted to aid for Africa.
