Yechury, Karat & four others declared elected to RS Friday, July 8 2005 12:17 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

All the six Rajya Sabha candidates from West Bengal, including Communist Party of India (CPI) Marxist (M) politburo members Sitaram Yechury and Brinda Karat, were today (July 8, 2005) declared elected, the last day of withdrawal of candidature.
According to an assembly secretariat notification, besides Yechury and Karat who made their debut in the Rajya Sabha, others declared elected were CPI (M) Politburo member Chittabrata Majumdar, Republican Socialist Party (RSP's) Abani Roy, Trinamool Congress Swapan Sadhan 'Tutu' Bose' and Congress-backed Independent and former Planning Commission member Arjun Sengupta.
There will be no need for election slated for July 14, secretariat sources said.Both Mazumdar and Roy are sitting Rajya Sabha members and were renominated.
'Tutu' Bose is the president of renowned soccer club Mohun Bagan. The seats fell vacant after the retirement of Chandrakala Pande, Sarala Maheswari and Jiban Roy from CPI (M) besides Gen (Retired) Shankar Roychowdhury (Independent) and Dinesh Trivedi (Trinamool Congress).
