Army adopts handicapped kids; to provide education Sunday, July 10 2005 12:23 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

In a first of its kind attempt to foster civil-military relations, the Sehjra brigade of Army adopted three handicapped children belonging to the villages situated along the Indo-Pakistan border with a promise to provide them free education and all other facilities till Class XII.
In a ceremony held near Ferozepur today (July 10, 2005) on the banks of river Sutlej, the Army adopted Jinder Singh of village Gatti Rajoke, Kewal Singh of village Chandiwala and Jaswinder Singh of village Hazara Singhwala.
Of the three kids, Kewal Singh studying in nursery class is mine causality and one of his legs had to be amputated, Jinder Singh and Jaswinder Singh, students of Class IV are polio-affected. The Army also gifted them crutches and tricycles along with stipends.
Brigadier S K Khajuria VSM, commander Sehjra brigade, while welcoming the students into the fold of Sehjra family said that it was the first step of its kind under 'sena-awam mel milap' programme initiated by the army under operation Sangam.
