Amarnath Yatra suspended from Jammu due to rains Wednesday, July 13 2005 12:48 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Jammu:
The Amarnath Yatra was today (July 13, 2005) not allowed to proceed from Jammu as heavy rains in South Kashmir rendered the tracks slippery, official sources said in Jammu today.
The Yatra was not allowed to proceed from base camp of MAM stadium here towards the cave shrine from both Pahalgam and Baltal routes, they said.
The pilgrims were yesterday (July 12, 2005) detained at Pahalgam and Baltal due to incessant rains since Tuesday.
Some of the pilgrims who have already reached other places like Chandanwari, Panchtarni, Pisu top and the holy cave have also been asked not to proceed further as a precautionary measure, the authorities are monitoring weather situation, they said.
The Yatra would be resumed only after weather improves and tracks become fit for pilgrims to move towards the cave shrine, they said.
