Imrana issue coverage aimed defaming muslim: MPLB Wednesday, July 13 2005 11:04 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Lucknow: :
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) today alleged that over exposure given by the media to the Imrana issue and taking it to the streets was aimed at defaming Islam and Muslim Personal Law.
"To bring such an issue to the streets and defame Islam and the Personal Law is totally unjustified and incorrect and the members of the board should object to them," AIMPLB general secretary Maulana Syed Nizamuddin said here.
"Had the media and some intellectuals not unjustly interfered in the episode, she would not have suffered so many difficulties," Nizamuddin said in a release.
The board feels that taking such social evils to the drawing rooms by the print and electronic media will in no way reform the society but on the contrary will help in spread of such evils, he added.
The Imrana episode basically being a "local matter", it was not obligatory for the board to express its opinion on the issue.
Stating that the Darul-uloom of Deoband was a reputed centre of the Hanafi sect, he said it had expressed its opinion in the Imrana matter and there was no justification in opposing the same.
The maulana said the board had representation of all sects of Islam and it has never made any attempt to impose the views of one sect on another.
