Karnataka Government has stepped up security at all its vital installations, including Vidhana Soudha, the State secretariat, in the wake of Union Home Ministry sounding alert on terrorists' plans of attack in the State, Chief Minister N Dharam Singh informed the State assembly today (July 13, 2005).
Intelligence wings of the Centre have also tipped off the State that militants were likely to target some of the installations including Vidhana Soudha, irrigation projects and centres of commercial and economic activity, he said while responding to the issue raised by Opposition BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) leader B S Yediyurappa during zero hour.
Singh who refused to make public the details of security arrangements the State has put in place in the wake of threat perception, however assured that he would share it with the Opposition, if need be.
He said in addition to maintaining strict vigil across the State, security cover has been doubled at Vidhana Soudha, besides installing CCTV cameras at various points.
Singh said vital installations, reservoirs and prominent places of worship of all faiths were also being guarded to avert attacks akin to the one that occurred at Ayodhya.
The Chief Minister said Union Home Minister Shivaraj Patil had a telephonic talk with him yesterday (July 12, 2005) and asked him to initiate steps to beef up security measures.
Earlier, Revenue Minister M P Prakash said the State Chief Secretary K K Mishra today held discussions with top police officials.
