BJP not to stake claim for Opposition Leader's post Thursday, July 14 2005 11:36 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Mumbai:
Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) yesterday (July 13, 2005) said that the party was not staking a claim for the post of Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly in the wake of recent political developments.
"The decision on the new incumbent for the post is to be taken by the Speaker as per rules," BJP General Secretary, Pramod Mahajan, who met party legislators at the office of Leader of Opposition in State Council Pandurang Phundkar, told reporters at Vidhan Bhavan here.
"We are worried and saddened by the developments in the Shiv Sena, our ally," Mahajan said adding, "Such developments are inevitable in politics."
"The entire strategy on the issue is being worked out by Shiv Sena alone and BJP has no role in the matter," Mahajan said.
"The Sena has not come to us so far to discuss the issue of Leader of Opposition," the BJP leader added.
