3-day National Executive meet from July 21 in TN
Thursday, July 14 2005 14:37 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Chennai: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP's) three day national executive meeting, beginning in Chennai on July 21, will formulate the party's strategy for the next year's assembly polls in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Assam and Pondicherry, besides this year's assembly polls to Bihar.

The meeting would discuss the issue thoroughly and take a final decision, party Tamil Nadu unit president C P Radhakrishnan told a press conference here today (July 14, 2005).

He said the party would hold a rally here on July 22, which would be addressed by BJP President L K Advani, former Prime Minister A B Vajpayee, national office bearers of the party and the Chief Ministers of BJP ruled states.

The National Executive would give an 'impetus' to the growth of the party in Tamil Nadu, where it had already announced that it would go it alone for polls, he said.

He said the history book for eleventh standard, prepared by the National Council of Research and Educational Training (NCRET), had portrayed well-known Maratha fighter Prthivraj Chauhan as a 'coward'.

Tamil Nadu Text Book society, in its history book for standard nine, had stated that Rastriya Swayam Seva Sangh (RSS) was responsible for the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi.

Both these were the 'twists' of historical facts and these portions should be removed from the textbooks, he said.

He said the BJP would organise a fast at Thanjavur this month end, if the Centre did not take steps to get Cauvery waters to Tamil Nadu from Karnataka.

He said the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) constituents from the state were doing a 'lip service' to the state's cause on the issue.
