States advised to step up security of major temples

Guruvayur: The Centre had instructed all states to step up security at major temples in the wake of the terrorists' bid to strike at Ayodhya recently, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil said today (July 18, 2005).

In a brief chat with reporters, after worshipping at the Sri Krishna temple here, Patil said the Centre was ready to help the states in case they required any expertise in strengthening security at important places of worship.

On his arrival, Patil was received by the Temple authorities. Kerala DGP Raman Srivastava and other senior police officials were present.
