Terrorist activities in Kashmir declines: Patil Monday, July 18 2005 18:01 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Thrissur:
Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil today (July 18, 2005) said terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir had declined by more than 60 per cent and by 40 to 50 per cent in the Northeast.
Though there had been considerable improvement in the situation it did not mean that terrorist menace in the country had come to an end, Patil said, addressing the trainees at the Kerala Police Academy in Thrissur.
Four per cent decline in naxalite activities in the country was, however, not very impressive, he said.
Patil asked the defence, state and paramilitary forces not to 'lose heart' on account of a few terrorist attacks here and there as the country was strong enough to meet all types
of threats.
Modernisation of military, paramilitary and police forces to equip them to meet all challenges was a continuing process, he said.
It was also essential to apply one's mind as the crime scenario of the modern world also included 'intellectual and ideological crimes,' which could not be tackled with weapons.
