Mumbai: Shiv Sena today (July 19, 2005) formally staked its claim to the post of Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra assembly, a post vacated by expelled Sena leader Narayan Rane on July 12.

"We are meeting the Speaker Babasaheb Kupekar and handing him a letter stating that as ours is the largest group, Ramdas Kadam, leader of the Sena in the lower house, be appointed as the new Opposition leader," chief whip of the Shiv Sena legislature party Gajanan Kirtikar told sources in Mumbai.
