Verdict against Jagir Kaur "politically motivated" Thursday, July 21 2005 10:50 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Amritsar:
Punjab's main opposition, Akali Dal (Badal) yesterday (July 20, 2005), termed as 'politically motivated', the ruling by Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission (SGJC) expelling Bibi Jagir Kaur as SGPC Chief, for allegedly causing huge financial loss to the Sikh religious institution and accused Chief Minister Amarinder Singh of 'conspiring' to 'defame' her.
SAD (Badal) General Secretary, Sukhbir Singh Badal, told media persons here that his party would extend full support in this crucial hour to Kaur since it suspected a conspiracy in the verdict delivered by the Commission.
He said the verdict delivered by SGJC against was 'biased and politically motivated' and alleged that the Commission Chairman Kashmir Singh Patti has 'proximity' to Chief Minister Amarinder Singh who 'hatched a conspiracy against the SGPC Chief to defame her.'
Sukhbir Badal alleged Captain Amarinder Singh wanted to maintain his hegemony SGPC through the SGJC and that was why Bibi Jagir Kaur was expelled.
The Commission had yesterday ordered the expulsion of Kaur on the charge of giving fee concessions for admission to wards of influential politicians in courses in a SGPC run medical institute causing Rs. 2.5 crore loss to the supreme body managing key Sikh shrines.
Badal said, "So far almost all the verdicts delivered by SGJC had been overruled in Punjab and Haryana high court when challenged and SAD hoped this decision too would be struck down declared by the high court."
