Metro Rail: Govt mulls hi-tech security apparatus
Thursday, July 21 2005 17:01 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Alerted by the London blasts, Government is considering putting in place a hi-tech security apparatus besides deploying CISF to ensure safety of the prestigious Delhi Metro Rail by the month-end.

The security arrangements, whose costs are expected to run into crores of rupees, will include use of gadgetry like CCTVs, scanners, X-ray machines and doorframe metal detectors, official sources said in New Delhi today (July 21, 2005).

With the threat perception to the modern mode of transport in the national capital remaining high, the Government is inclined to deploy CISF to provide the protective cover, the sources said.

The main factor going in favour of CISF is that it is already engaged in providing security to sensitive installations like airports and nuclear plants and national monuments, the sources said.

CISF made a presentation about their security drill to the officials of the Home Ministry on Saturday last and the feedback is believed to be positive in its favour.

CISF sources said the force had about 250 personnel ready to take up Metro security at short notice.

The force has been asked to work out the expenditure that will be incurred on the security net.
