Friday, July 22 2005 19:50 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Chennai: The nationwide indefinite strike by the LPG bulk transporters was called off this evening (July 22, 2005).

The strike, which entered the fifth day today, was called off by the LPG Bulk Transporters Association after talks between the Association and the Oil Industry (comprising Indian Oil Corporation, BPCL, HPCL and IBP Ltd) at Mumbai, an official of IOC told sources in Chennai.

"The strike has been withdrawn," the official said, adding that he was yet to get the details.

Over 2000 LPG tankers in Tamil Nadu stayed off the roads following the strike, which began on Monday (July 18, 2005).

Thirteen of the 16 plants in Tamil Nadu were shut down yesterday which were serving over 50 lakh domestic LPG connections.
