BJP not to boycott monsoon session, says Somnath Friday, July 22 2005 17:45 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Noida:
The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) has given an assurance that the party will not boycott the coming monsoon session, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee said today (July 22, 2005).
"Why should there be boycott? I requested BJP to attend the monsoon session. They have agreed to it," he said in Noida on the sidelines of a CAG seminar here.
The Speaker, who has been holding meetings with various party leaders, said he expected constructive debate and good legislations in the forthcoming session, that begins on Monday and concludes on August 26.
BJP leader V K Malhotra said the party has decided to not boycott the monsoon session, but "attack" the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) Government on various issues.
"We will very much participate in the session this time. We have decided to forcefully rap the Government in Parliament on a number of political and economic issues," he said.
BJP will use the session for raising the issues relating to praise of British Raj by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Illegal Migration Detention Tribunal (IMDT) Act and joint Indo-US statement, Malhotra said.
The party will also highlight the "wrong" economic policies of the UPA Government that "has led to rise in unemployment and inflation," he added.
