Terror infrastructure in countries not tolerated Friday, July 22 2005 15:16 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
United Nations:
Urging the international community not to tolerate 'double standards' in dealing with terrorism, India today (July 22, 2005) said countries supporting the war on terror but maintaining terror infrastructure should no longer be allowed to get away with impunity.
Without naming Pakistan, India's ambassador to the United Nations Nirupam Sen told a the Security Council that the international community must no longer tolerate resort to
'double standards, partial cooperation for political ends, tactical ploys, incitement, fundamentalist training and indoctrination, and support or sponsorship of terrorism.'
States, which 'profess' cooperation in the war against terror but maintain infrastructure of terrorism should no longer, allowed getting away with impunity, he told the Security
Council debate on "Threats of International Peace and Security Caused by Terrorism."
He appealed the international committee to take quick proactive measures to check further nuclear proliferation.
Stressing that New Delhi's track record on nuclear non- proliferation is impeccable, Sen said, "Even though we have witnessed unchecked proliferation in our own neighborhood, which has affected our security concerns, India has not only adhered to existing regulatory framework governing controls over weapons of mass destruction and their means of delivery but proceeded to strengthen there."
Sen rejected the argument that the rise in terror was due to clash of civilizations.
