Shiv Sainiks detained for disrupting Rane's meeting

Mumbai: About 100 suspected Shiv sainiks were today (July 24, 2005) detained when they tried to disrupt a public meeting called by expelled party leader Narayan Rane at Dadar in central Mumbai today, police said.

Few hours before the meeting, unidentified persons had set afire some tyres, police said adding, strong bandobast has been maintained with tension prevailing in the area.

About 100 alleged Shiv Sainiks who came to disrupt the meeting have been detained, police said.

The meeting later started as scheduled.

Meanwhile, sources close to Rane said Shiv Sainiks are giving vent to their anger as Rane is all set to join the Congress.
