CBI chargesheet against Telgi, his wife and Sharma Monday, July 25 2005 19:50 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
The CBI is likely to file a chargesheet before a Pune court tomorrow (July 26, 2005) against 67 people, including main kingpin Abdul Karim Telgi, his wife and former Mumbai Police Commissioner R S Sharma in connection with the stamp paper scam case.
The case, when handed over to the CBI, was already in its final stages and the special investigation team formed by Maharashtra government had prepared a list of 45 people
against whom chargesheet had to be filed.
However, the CBI added another 22 names to the list, which included that of Telgi's wife, who has been charged for abetting the crime.
The investigation into the high-profile case, which has been on for over a year, saw several heads rolling in Maharashtra police including that of Sharma and eight others,
official sources said.
However, the investigating agency agreed with the SIT finding that no politicians were involved in the crime, the sources said.
It still questioned a host of politicians, including Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Chaggan Bhujbal, at present Public Works Department (PWD) Minister in Maharashtra Government and his nephew Samir and hotelier Lalit Suri but could not find any of them helping the scamster in any way, they said.
