NHRC calls for free probe into Gurgaon incident
Tuesday, July 26 2005 17:57 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Concerned over the alleged police brutality on agitating workers of Honda in Gurgaon, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) today (July 26, 2005) asked the government to get an independent inquiry done into yesterday's incident, preferably by the CBI.

The Commission also asked the Chief Secretary, Haryana, to send an Action-Taken Report in the matter to it within 10 days, an NHRC spokesperson told.

The NHRC is of the opinion that to instill the confidence of people in the rule of law, an impartial inquiry by an agency independent of the state is called for.
