Stand-off with RSS over Advani issue ended: BJP
Wednesday, July 27 2005 15:21 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Chennai: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today (July 27, 2005) claimed that its stand-off with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), over the Advani issue, was over.

Asserting that the RSS never wanted a change in the BJP leadership, BJP spokesperson Prakash Javedekar told reporters here that the organisation had only warned against 'ideological deviations.'

"The confusion between the RSS and the BJP is now over and L K Advani will continue for long as the BJP President and the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha," he said when asked whether the principle of 'one man one post' would be adhered to in Advani's case.

The three-day BJP National Executive meeting here from September 16, would discuss the prevailing political situation in the country, with particular reference to the six states facing Assembly polls next year.

On AIADMK Supremo Jayalalithaa's remarks that she had an 'open mind' on her party's alliance with other parties, he said there was no change in the BJP's decision to go it alone in the state. "We do not know when she opens her mind or closes it."

"The Centre should take a more proactive role in the Cauvery water dispute between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and see to it that the final award of the tribunal is expedited. With the Congress, leading a coalition both at the Centre and in Karnataka, it should take a proactive role now," he added.
