Bangalore:
A state-of-art Nano technology centre dedicated to research and experimentation in the field was today (July 27, 2005) inaugurated at the Jawaharalal Nehru Centre (JNC) for Advanced Scientific Research in Bangalore.
Jointly set up by Veeco Instrument Inc (leading supplier of instrumentation to the Nan science community), in collaboration with the JNC, the centre would be open to those
interested in studying the emerging field of Nano technology and carrying out research and experimentation, Prof C N R Rao, President, JNC, told reporters.
The centre will be staffed with local scientists and engineers and equipped with Veeco's latest Atomic Force Microscope (AFM), Scanning Tunnelling Microscope (STM) products and other advanced Nano technology application modules, John Bulman the company's executive Vice President, Worldwide sales and Foreign Operations, said.
The centre to be jointly operated by Veeco and JNC would provide researchers the state-of-the art equipment and enable training facilities in the field.
The centre also hopes to encourage more scientific papers in the field following in-depth research on the subject and the centre.
According to Michael Weiss, Vice President and GM, Asia Pacific of Veecao, the mission statement of the company was to demonstrate the Nano technology and provide access to it.
It also aimed at creating collaboration between researchers and interested parties to work towards the commercial application of the technology.
"We through the centre hope to attract more researchers into the field besides generating awareness about the technology among both policy makers and industrialists keen in commercial application of the science," he said.
