Mumbai airport's runway continues to be waterlogged
Wednesday, July 27 2005 09:33 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Mumbai: Mumbai Airport has been closed till 11 am as the runway continued to be waterlogged, following heavy rains on the second consecutive day today (July 27, 2005) and crucial navigation and landing aids were unavailable.

A fresh NOTAM (notice to all airlines) stated that the airport would be closed till 11 am, airline officials said.

A NOTAM earlier issued last evening (July 27, 2005) had said that the airport would be closed till 5.30 am.

Crucial navigation and landing aids such as the Instrument Landing System and Distance Measuring Instrument are not available and continued to remain inaccessible due to water logging.

Airport officials are to carry out an examination as soon as water recedes before deciding on opening the runway, the officials added.

The runway has been closed since 2.30 pm yesterday (July 27, 2005) following the heavy downpour and all international and domestic flights have been diverted to various destinations.

Power to the Sahar terminal building was also switched off as a precautionary measure and is being restored in phases, an airport official said adding, the taxi stand outside the building is still under water.
