Wednesday, July 27 2005 19:36 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Sania Mirza set up a dream clash with Wimbledon champion Venus Williams after clinching a hard fought victory over Eleni Daniilidou of Greece in the first round at the $585,000 WTA Tour event in Stanford, USA, on Wednesday (July 27, 2005).

Sania, who had entered the main draw as lucky loser, outlasted Daniilidou, ranked 58th, in a see-saw battle 7-6 (7/4) 2-6 6-3 to advance to a second round showdown with the second seeded American.

Sania had played Venus' younger sister Serena at the Australian Open earlier this year.

The match between the 18-year old Indian and the five-time Grand Slam champion was scheduled for later today.
