No compromise on combating terrorism, says Sonia Wednesday, July 27 2005 20:01 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Complimenting the security forces for thwarting a terrorist attack on the makeshift temple in Ayodhya, Congress President Sonia Gandhi today (July 27, 2005) asserted that there would be no let-up in determination to combat terrorism while pursuing the peace process.
"There has never been and there will not be any compromise on this (terrorism) issue," Gandhi told a general body meeting of Congress Parliamentary Party in New Delhi.
Even as she praised the brave officers and jawans, Gandhi, who is Chairperson of Cabinet Committee on Peace (CPP), drew attention to the ' tragic' incident in which three children were killed at the hands of security forces 'inadvertently' saying such incidents should not be repeated.
She acknowledged that the security forces faced the heaviest of odds in Jammu and Kashmir. But at the same time, "We must ensure that unfortunate incidents like the one in which three children became tragic victims of inadvertent action should not happen again," she said.
"Our hearts go out to the bereaved families," the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson said.
Pointing out that recent weeks had also seen spurt in violence in the state, she
said "Clearly, while we pursue the peace process, there can be and there will not be any let-up in our determination to combat terrorism."
