United Nations:
Arab League Secretary General, Amre Moussa has supported the proposal of the Pakistan and Italy led 'United for Consensus' (UFC) group, which calls for expansion of the 15-member Security Council only in non- permanent category.
The proposal by G-4 comprising India, Japan, Germany and Brazil, which calls for expansion in both permanent and non permanent category, would lead to exclusion of many states, he told reporters here today (July 27, 2005).
The UFC proposal calls for addition of ten non- permanent members to take their number to 20 and the Council strength to 25.
G-4 resolution, which now before the General Assembly, would add six permanent and four non permanent members to the Council.
G-4 and African Union is currently negotiating to present a joint resolution for vote in the 191-member Assembly.
