Gurgaon type incident will never happen in WB: LF Thursday, July 28 2005 20:10 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Kolkata:
While the Left leaders in Delhi fumed over the Gurgaon violence involving the Japanese firm Honda, West Bengal's ruling Left Front today (July 28, 2005) sought to dispel Japanese fears of a similar incident happening in Kolkata, saying investors of that country have a positive experience in the State.
"It (Gurgaon incident) will never happen here. There is no difficulty in investment by the Japanese. The workers in our State are organised and they demonstrate in an organised way. The Japanese investors and the Japanese JBIC bank have positive experience here,'' Left Front chairman Biman Bose told reporters after a meeting of the constituents of the ruling coalition.
Bose, who is also a CPM (Communist Party of India Marxist) politburo member, said this when asked to comment on the statement of the Japanese envoy in India, Y Enoki, that labour unrest at Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India Ltd might impact FDI inflows into India.
The LF chairman said that unlike in the Congress and BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party)-ruled States, the police here during Left rule never fired on democratic movements.
He termed the police lathi-charge on workers in Gurgaon as 'barbaric' and said that the Left Front would observe a state-wide protest on August 1.
