Thursday, July 28 2005 15:18 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: The Deputy Commissioner and the SSP of Gurgaon have been asked to proceed on leave in the wake of police action on workers of a multinational company, Home Minister Shivraj Patil informed the Lok Sabha today (July 28, 2005).

Making a statement in the House, he said the Haryana Government has informed that a commission of inquiry has been set up under G C Garg, a retired judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, and it has been asked to submit its report within three months.

Describing the incident involving workers of Hondo Motors and the state police as unfortunate, he said, since the time of the incident, the Centre has been in constant contact with the State Government.

Of the injured, six are now under treatment in the civil hospital, Gurgaon, and none of them is serious, he said.

Some of the persons detained by police were not employees of Hondo Motors, Patil said.

Citing the Haryana Government report, he said, a crowd had gathered on July 26 within the complex of the civil hospital in Gurgaon.

The DC, who was visiting the injured at the hospital, was gheraoed. This caused hindrance in the discharge of duties of doctors and the staff of the hospital, Patil said.

Following the aggressive posture of the crowd, police was forced to use teargas shells to chase them away, the Home Minister said.

The Haryana Government has informed that the situation was under control and peaceful, he said, adding, the Centre was also monitoring the situation.
