CPM rules out withdrawing support to UPA Govt Thursday, July 28 2005 19:35 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Kolkata:
The CPM (Communist Party of India Marxist) today (July 28, 2005) ruled out withdrawal of support to the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) Government by Left parties despite being unhappy with the Government over deviation from the Common Minimum Programmes, but said it would keep pressure to make it adhere to the Common Minimum Programme.
"Left parties are not going to withdraw support from the Government, though they will keep pressure on the Government to fulfil the commitments made in the CMP. This is to see that the Government remain in right track," the CPM politburo member, Biman Bose, told a press conference.
"The Government of India is not implementing the provisions of the Common Minimum Programme," Bose, who is the chairman of the West Bengal's ruling Left Front, told reporters after a front committee meeting in Kolkata.
He said that the Left Front had decided to undertake a month-long campaign in West Bengal in August to force the UPA Government to implement the CMP properly.
Replying to a question on BHEL disinvestment, Bose said that the CPM politburo, which is meeting in New Delhi tomorrow (July 29, 2005), would discuss it.
"We have articulated our concern on the BHEL disinvestment to the highest leadership of the UPA. We expect an amicable settlement," Bose said adding that the disinvestment proposal was a deviation from the Common Minimum Programme of UPA.
Veteran CPM leader Jyoti Basu is among the party leaders from West Bengal who will attend tomorrow's politburo meeting, party sources here said.
