'Advani not displaying consistency on Ayodhya' Friday, July 29 2005 20:50 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Criticising L K Advani for not displaying "intellectual consistency" in his statements on the Ayodhya issue, former Prime Minister V P Singh today (July 29, 2005) said the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) President should not express views on it "contingent" only to his own position.
"First Advani said the issue should be settled through talks. After this (the filing of chargesheet against him and seven others yesterday), he said that the people of the country would not rest until a Ram Temple was built at the disputed site," Singh told reporters in New Delhi.
He said Advani's viewpoint on the issue seemed to have become contingent with only his own position vis-a-vis the case. "It should be treated as the country's problem, not like some personal problem.
"There should be some intellectual consistency (on the part of Advani) on the issue," he said.
The former Premier said the process of law should go on in the case.
"Advani can no longer gain political mileage from it," he said.
