Jaya seeks discharge in disproportionate asset case

Bangalore: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today (July 29, 2005) moved a petition before the Special Court here, praying for her discharge in the Rs 66.65 crore disproportionate asset case filed against her.

The prosecution has not obtained proper sanction from the competent authorities under section 19 of the prevention of corruption act 1988, she submitted in her application.

Jayalalithaa is the third accused to file application seeking discharge in the case after Illavarasi, the accused No. 4 and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) Rajya Sabha MP, T T V Dinakaran, one of the accused in the London Hotel case, which now stands merged with the main asset case.

Dinakaran has now been arraigned as accused No. 5.
