Speaker restricts from raising supplementaries Friday, July 29 2005 12:50 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
In a bid to ensure that more questions are answered to by the Government during the Question Hour, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee today (July 29, 2005) said only those members who had put up the queries would be allowed to raise supplementaries.
Maintaining that the new rule would come into effect from Monday (August 1, 2005), he said in the House that this was being done to ensure that more questions are taken up during the designated hour.
In normal practice only a handful of questions are answered to during the Question Hour due to a large number of supplementaries raised by several members.
Observing that he had received as many as 19 notices for a single question today (July 29, 2005), the Speaker pointed out that only those members, against whom the questions are listed, would be allowed to raise supplementaries.
